The simple rule
Allow 1.5 to 2 square metres per guest for a seated dinner with round tables, chairs and walkways. Standing receptions need less, around 1 square metre per guest. Add a dance floor, stage or bar and you will want the next size up.
Wedding tent size by guest count
This table shows a good starting size for a seated wedding at each guest count. It assumes round-table dining with room to move. We confirm the exact size at a free site survey.

What adds to the size you need
The dining area is only part of the picture. Add space for anything you plan to include:
- Dance floor: Adds roughly 0.5 to 1 square metre per guest who will dance.
- Stage or head table: A raised stage or top table needs its own zone at the front.
- Bar and catering: A bar, buffet or service area takes space along one side.
- Majlis or lounge: A traditional majlis or lounge area adds a separate seating zone.
A worked example for 100 guests
For 100 seated guests, start with about 162 square metres, roughly a 9 x 18 m marquee. Add a dance floor and a stage and you are closer to a 12 x 18 m structure at 216 square metres. For a large, open interior at this size, a clearspan marquee is ideal, and it is the easiest to fully air condition.
